What is HHW?
Household hazardous waste (HHW) is a term that describes the waste associated with the wide variety of chemical cleaners, pesticides, fertilizers, paints, auto fluids, and other toxic materials in use in homes, automobiles, and yards. The topic of HHW affects each and every individual and community given the nearly universal use, storage, and disposal of chemical consumer products.

Annual One-day Collection Events
The annual events are indefinitely postponed. From 1992 through 2008, Kane County worked with the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (IEPA) to offer one-day collection events for residents at various locations in Kane County. The 25 one-day events have been attended by 30,528 residents and diverted an estimated 3,050,000 pounds of material from landfills. Kane Countys last event was in 2008. IEPA does not presently have funding for these collections. There is a current Kane County application on file at the IEPA for an event at the fairgrounds, but the earliest projected date for another event would be 2014 or later depending on funding.
