Program Services

The Kane County Recycling Program maintains, evaluates, improves, and expands opportunities for reuse, recycling and waste diversion in Kane County. Program staff serve as a resource on proper waste disposal and diversion in the County. Questions are routinely answered by telephone (630-208-3841) and by email (recycle@kanecountyil.gov). Residents may also come in and speak to staff in-person, but an appointment is recommended.

County-coordinated recycling programs focus on: electronics, books, clothing and textiles, batteries, confidential document destruction, fluorescent tubes, as well as other hazardous materials and hard-to-recycle materials. The program publishes the Kane County Recycles Green Guide, maintains the comprehensive Kane County Recycles webpages and offers information on the Kane County Leaf Burning Regulations. This office oversees the Recycling and Hauler Licensing Ordinance 95-157, which requires commercial businesses and multi-family residences to recycle, and provides the provisions for hauler licensing and reporting. For more information on the ordinance please see this FAQs sheet.

The County Recycling Coordinator oversees the implementation and updates of the Kane County Solid Waste Plan, as required by state mandate (415 ILCS 15/6).

Kane County Recycles is part of the Division of Environmental and Water Resources, which is responsible for implementing the countywide Stormwater Management program, the Kane County Recycles recycling and waste recovery programs, the electric aggregation program, the Sustain Kane programs, and other resource conservation and environmental projects.
